Public Safety, along with Student Affairs and Campus Recreation, have teamed up to host a Campus Safety Day. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to learn about resources available and advice on reacting during dangerous situations.
10am-10:45am: Public Safety presents Emergency Response Training with a focus on options when responding to an Active Shooter
11am – Noon: Intro to Empowerment Self-Defense:
Learn the basics in recognizing problematic behavior and responding assertively to early warning signs when possible, and defending yourself if necessary, from Thousand Waves Martial Arts & Self-Defense Center. Get introduced to the Five Fingers of Self-Defense and the other more advanced self-defense courses available to students free of charge from Thousand Waves.
12:15pm - 1pm: “Take Care DePaul Panel”: Featuring representatives from Student Affairs (Dean of Students, Title IX Coordinator, HPW rep) and Public Safety. Will discuss how the university responds to reports of Sexual and Relationship Violence and other safety related concerns. Will highlight the various resources faculty, staff, and students have in reporting concerns about fellow colleagues or students.
1:15pm – 2pm: Public Safety presents Emergency Response Training (with a focus on options when responding to an Active Shooter (repeated)
This event is free of charge. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees will also have a chance to enter a raffle for a CPR/AED course offered by Campus Recreation.
