OVERVIEW: As the Trump administration begins to take shape, what is next for the US and the Middle East? From the most recent travel ban focused squarely on the Middle East, uncertainty over Iran and the nuclear deal, and developments in relations with Israel and Palestine, US policy is clearly changing. Almost no country in the region is without its challenges for Washington, especially as civil wars unfold in Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen. What role will the US have in the conflicts in the Middle East?

SPEAKER: Wendy Sherman is a senior counselor at Albright Stonebridge Group, and a senior fellow at Harvard?s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. She previously served as an undersecretary of state for Political Affairs at the US Department of State, and led the US negotiating team in the Iran nuclear agreement. Sherman also served as special advisor to President Clinton and policy coordinator on North Korea. She served as chair of the Board of Directors of Oxfam America and was also on the US Department of Defense?s Defense Policy Board. In 2008, Sherman served on the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction, Proliferation and Terrorism. She holds a BA from Boston University and a MSW from the University of Maryland.
