College of Education Fall Forum- BACK TO SCHOOL: CARE AND SAFETY IN THE CLASSROOM

As K-12 students return to in-person learning this fall, what are the issues facing teachers and counselors as they help students cope with the ongoing pandemic and a year and a half of remote learning?  The forum will discuss the importance of centering psychological and emotional trauma and prioritizing social/emotional learning.in schools.  An emphasis will be on children's differential access to resources, i.e., what are the issues for low income and students of color? 

Panelists include

Dr Micere Keels, Associate Professor of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago

Lissette Flores, Counselor at Grissom Elementary School

Monique Smith, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Coach at Piccolo Elementary

Forum will be moderated by Dr Melissa Ockerman, Associate Professor of Counseling and Special Education at DePaul University
