Creating Inclusive Learning Environments Book Club (Loop)

Join colleagues for a provocative book discussion over lunch about inclusive learning environments prior to attending the 2019  Teaching and Learning Conference. We will read together chapter 6 from the book authored by our keynote speaker, Michele DiPietro entitled  How Learning Works: 7 Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching. In this chapter DiPietro examines the connection between inclusive teaching methods and evidence-based principles for effective pedagogies.  We will reflect upon these insights and discuss the following:

  • What distinguishes a welcoming learning environment from a non-welcoming one?
  • What are the benefits of creating inclusive learning environments?
  • How can attention to inclusion help to realize DePaul’s Vincentian Mission?
  • How can we, as educators, create inclusive spaces for one another and our students?

Lunch will be provided. You can access a copy of  How Learning Works: 7 Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching online via DePaul University Library. This book club is sponsored by the Division of Mission and Ministry.
