CLE- 2018 Annual DePaul Law Review Symposium

The Intersection of International Criminal Law and Gender: Progress of the Past and Goals for the Future.

Hosted in Honor of Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni

Co-hosted by The International Human Rights Law Institute (IHRLI)

The 28th DePaul Law Review Symposium will focus on the intersection of international law and gender, with a specific emphasis on how international criminal law impacts other areas of international and domestic law on gender. The Symposium will seek to gather a variety of perspectives and expertise on how international criminal law has impacted and influenced, whether strengthening or hindering, other areas of law in terms of progressively addressing gender issues. These other areas of law may include international refugee law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law. The goal of the Symposium is to highlight the progressive impact of international criminal law on gender issues and explore that impact on other areas of international law, as well as domestic law and policy. The Symposia aims to foster innovative discussion on applying the lessons learned from international criminal law to strengthen gender initiatives through other frameworks.

The 2018 Symposium will be hosted in honor and in the memory of distinguished DePaul College of Law Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni and the incredible contributions he made to DePaul University and the field of international law.
