Guest Presentation: Adaptive Learning / Mobile Learning / Video Research

This session will shine a spotlight on some projects in FITS that you may not have heard about, and may be able to participate in! Three Senior Instructional Technology Consultants from FITS will present their ongoing work.
Jan Costenbader: Adaptive LearningA discussion of the Adaptive Learning trials in the Department of Mathematical Sciences with a preview of a new adaptive learning tool that significantly lowers cost for students by using Open Educational Resources.
Alex Joppie: Mobile LearningLearn techniques and technologies for using student smartphones to promote rather than detract from learning. This broad overview will cover classroom response systems, flash cards and other study aids, structured fieldwork activities, and tips for mobile-friendly course sites in D2L.
Josh Lund: Video researchThe results from a two-year dive into video viewing statistics at DePaul, revealing our students’ average consumption of video, how much they watch, and where the “sweet spot” is to make a video that is informative enough but that will still get watched by your students.
