In this final panel of a three-part series, a Muslim & Catholic leader of interfaith dialogue come together to discuss the religious & theological resources--as well as the practical, on-the-ground strategies--that they have personally found fruitful in the Philippines, where this dialogue truly can mean the difference between life & death.

Our panelists are

Amina Rasul
President, Philippine Center for Islam & Democracy
(Quezon City, Philippines)

*Rev. Eliseo "Jun" Mercado, OMI
Chair, National Peace Council
Chair, National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)
(Cotabato City, Mindanao, Philippines)

Our panel moderator is

Rev. Erdman Pandero
Doctoral candidate, Catholic Theological Union (CTU)
Former Secretary to Chair of Philippines' Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue

Rev. Pandero is a Catholic priest from the Filipino Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao. He is currently at CTU completing his doctoral thesis, "Neighborliness: Redefining Communities at the Frontier of Dialogue in the Southern Philippines." The son of a devout Muslim father and devout Catholic mother, his experience is unique and powerful. As he told us, "I can pray the Allahu Akbar and the Hallelujah in one phrase. I can read Arabic and pray my rosary using the Tasbih. And I usually end my sentence with in shā' Allāh ["if Allah wills"]! My prayer period coincides with the time of Muslim prayer time."

*EVENT UPDATE (April 7)
Fr. Mercado will be joining us live, via video conference. In late March, we learned that he cannot join us in person, due to health concerns that prevent him from traveling at this time, but on April 6, he confirmed that he can connect with us via video conference.
