Santa Mike and Friends Homeless Outreach Event

On November 4th, from 9:00am to 2pm, St. Vincent de Paul Center will open its doors to 400 homeless men, women, and children. These families and individuals are invited to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal, with over 200 volunteers who will be on hand to create a warm and welcoming environment. That is where we need your help!!!

This is the first in a series of holiday events at the center that will help make the holidays a little brighter for everyone in the community. The event not only feeds the homeless, but also aims to help “winterize” them. Our guests receive winter essentials such as thermal underwear, new coats, hats, gloves, sleeping bags and toiletries. Clients also have the opportunity to see healthcare providers, dentists, podiatrists, all of whom assist with social service needs. Clients will also recieve haircuts and a warm Thanksgiving meal.

As a past volunteer remarked, “It’s an expression of care and concern for the men and women in need. It is the only alternative that some of them have to receive these items. It is a day of importance for the individuals and we are so excited because it really is the kick-off event for the homeless during the holidays.”

The event serves as the beginning of the Santa Mike series, which has transformed the face of the Center and the lives of its clients over the past 47 years. Named after Mike Sturch, a former trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, “Santa Mike” and Friends will also host a children’s party followed by a senior party throughout the holidays.
