Welcome to the Steans Center’s Online Community Engagement (OCE) Live Events! A series of discussions, presentations and workshops led by our Community Partners, Faculty and Staff as a response to exploring social justice issues and action in the era of COVID-19.

OCE Live Events Schedule

  • 05/01 - Youth Advocacy/Adultism: join Hilda Franco, and youth leaders Herminia and Ruben, in a reflective and engaging workshop on how you can become a better advocate for youth.
  • 05/08 - Immigration & Refugee Rights and Services: dialogue with Salvador Cervantes, Regional Organizer from the Center for Community Change, and other community leaders from around the country about ongoing advocacy efforts and updates since the outbreak.
  • 05/15 - Food and Housing Insecurity & Advocacy: join the discussion to learn how organizations like All Chicago, Chicago Food Policy Action Council, Depaul USA (Chicago), and Marillac St. Vincent Family Services are working to address homelessness and food insecurity among communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
  • 05/22 - Mental Health During COVID-19: join professors Maria Ferrera and Noam Ostrander, of DePaul's Master of Social Work (MSW) program, for a dialogue on the pandemic's impact on our individual and collective mental health and to explore best practices for self-care.
