Speaker: Dr. Elias Ortega-Aponte
What is the legacy of the Young Lords today? This talk proposes that when the Young Lords created the "People's Church" in the 1960s, they opened the doors to conceive civic enagement as a form of radical spiritual practice. Dr. Ortega-Aponte examines how the group's socially-engaged spirituality may help us to confront various challenges today, including mass-incarceration, lack of comprehensive immigration reform and violence against women.
