"The old world is dying away, and the new world struggles to come forth: now is the time of monsters.”
These words resonate today as strongly as when Antonio Gramsci wrote them while languishing in Mussolini’s prison. Then and now, the world faces a crisis of legitimacy, in which popular upsurges struggle to survive in the context of the dystopian status quo.
This year’s conference invites attendees to consider historical and contemporary situations in which dystopian and utopian visions come into conflict, where the old may be both decaying and unyielding while the new is emerging in a form still unknown.
