Dr. Mullaney will join us in the Studio's swanky new space on the second floor of the Richardson Library for our first ever “under the hood” conversation, which will focus on his exciting, cutting-edge digital humanities project, "The Chinese Deathscape,” soon to be published by Stanford University Press as part of its new born-digital publishing initiative. As Tom explains, "In this digital platform, five leading historians and anthropologists of the Chinese world, and one of the foremost digital humanists and developers...harness a state-of-the-art, custom-developed digital storytelling and spatial analysis platform to examine the phenomenon of grave relocation in modern China – a campaign that has led to the exhumation and reburial of more than 10 million corpses in the past decade alone, and has transformed China’s graveyards into sites of acute personal, social, political, and economic contestation." This event is open to DePaul faculty and staff only.
