DESCRIPTION:The 1960’s in American history was a tumultuous period that l
eft a significant mark on the social\, cultural and political landscape of
country. This exhibit seeks to zoom-in on the life of African-Americans d
uring that period through the lens of the popular EBONY and JET magazines
which found their way in many African-American households. From the covers
\, we glean the “trending” and urgent social issues of the time.\n\nTh
e magazine covers present a “time machine” that takes us back to the 1
960’s to discover and learn about the pressing social topics that Africa
n-Americans felt were important at the time. The covers reveal social code
s\, middle-class Black respectability\, and changing values and ideologies
  as the decade progressed.\n\n \n\nExhibit runs : October 10\, 2018 to Mar
ch 10\, 2019. \n\nBrought to you by: Center for Black Diaspora and the Bl
ack Cultural Center at DePaul.\n\nRefreshments will be served.
LOCATION:Black Cultural Center\, Black Cultural Center\, O'Connell room 300
