Have you ever wanted to explore the world of Amateur Radio? Now is your chance! We will have two HAM radio experts teaching a course to prepare participants for the FCC Volunteer Exam (VE) for a Technician license.
THIS IS A PAID COURSE: It costs $30 dollars to participate, and is only to cover the price of the textbook necessary for the class. This will be collected closer to the start of the workshop.
What is Amateur Radio? More information can be found at:http://www.arrl.org/what-is-ham-radio
We will start at 3 pm sharp on Thursday September 20th. The class will run approximately 2 hours each day. The class will run 4 weeks with one class session per week.
The training will be a combination of home study and class review. The required home study includes studying the ARRL License Manual (Fourth Edition) and taking practice exam questions via online services. We expect you to invest 1 to 3 hours a week studying the supplied material and optionally using some web based tutorials. Class time will be used to reinforce your home study and answer questions.
A simple scientific calculator or smart phone calculator app might be useful so you can work through some of the simple arithmetic problems. The smart phone cannot be used during the VE test, however. You do not have to be a member of any club to take the class - just have a real commitment to obtain your amateur radio license.
The instructors are Mel Marcus, NE9A and Brian Davis, W9HLQ of the Hamfesters Radio Club, Crestwood, IL.
