DESCRIPTION:Join the DePaul African Ensemble and special guests Son Monarca
s for an evening of music highlighting shared musical roots between West A
frican drumming and Afro-Mexican music from Veracruz. \n\nSon Monarcas are
a Chicago-based ensemble dedicated to performing son jarocho. Their name
evokes the monarch butterfly that migrates from the Midwest to Mexico and
is equally at home in both worlds. The group is strongly rooted in traditi
on\, but the musicians draw on their experience performing jazz and Afro-C
aribbean music in the group’s original songs. The ensemble has performed
throughout the Chicago area\, and they give frequent educational workshop
s for children and adults. To learn more about the group\, please visit so
