Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Someday, Chicago co-curator Jasmine Alinder will give DPAM’s annual Art in Lincoln Park lecture. Her presentation will explore Ishimoto’s time living in Lincoln Park and his photographs of people living in the neighborhood during the 1950s and 60s. Alinder is Associate Professor of History at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Someday, Chicago examines the work of American-born photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921–2012) through the lens of Chicago, where Ishimoto lived for over a decade and where he would continue to return throughout his life. Although Ishimoto is best known in Japan, it was in Chicago that he first developed his uniquely modernist vision—both at the historic Institute of Design and in the city’s streets, where he captured changes reflective of broader societal shifts happening across the United States.
