About this Event
Come and hear Flint Taylor, founding partner of the People's Law Office, discuss his book "The Torture Machine." A lawyer for the people, Flint Taylor has spent nearly 50 years fighting for justice from the courtrooms of Cook County to the U.S. Supreme Court. "The Torture Machine" takes the reader from the 1969 murders of Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and Panther Mark Clark through the historic 13 years of litigation that followed. The book tells the story of the dogged pursuit by commander Jon Burge, alleged leader of a torture ring within the Chicago Police Department that used barbaric methods, including electric shock, to elicit false confessions from suspects. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Public Interest Law and the National Lawyers Guild.
