Join the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) for an art show, tarot card display and short film screening that tells the story of 16 undocumented Asian American Pacific Islanders, showcasing their resilience and the essence of being undocumented.
Come out and become a friend! Bow-tie & Friends is a traveling art exhibition dedicated to uplifting narratives of undocumented Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) immigrants through tarot cards. Currently at the national level, the conversation on immigration focuses on the Hispanic/Latinx experience but so rarely discusses the AAPI perspective. The media often portrays certain immigrants as "good" (i.e.: those who are able to go to school, find work, etc.), while simultaneously portraying other immigrants as "bad" if they do not have these aforementioned qualities. We want to question and disrupt these narratives, but we need your help! Learn about the multidimensional undocumented AAPI stories that immigrant artist Bo Thai has collected in tarot cards, share your own experiences, and become an empowered member of our community!
Light refreshments will be provided.
