On May 15th, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless will be hosting a townhall around the Bring Chicago Home campaign! Please RSVP so I can include you on the list. Some goals that it will cover:
Get media to attend and publicize the event
Educate the public, Aldermen, and Mayor on homelessness in Chicago and our solution – we want to lift up how homelessness is interconnected with inequitable education, high costs to the city associated with over policing and criminalization of people experiencing homelessness, and other intersections.
Get a core group of Aldermen to commit to doing the following in their first 100 days of office:
Co-sponsor the new BCH resolution
Advocate for the TWO key principles of BCH – raise the tax on properties over $1 million by 1.2 percentage points AND dedicate a large percentage of the revenue created to housing and services for households experiencing homelessness
Engage other Aldermen to get their support
Call Lightfoot and ask to support
*As this is off-campus, we will be meeting on campus at 5:30 pm to head over downtown! The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless will be providing dinner as well! You are also welcome to just meet at the town hall meeting.*
