DESCRIPTION:Since Chinese author Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem won t
 he 2015 Hugo Award\, science fiction has turned mainstream in China and Ch
 inese SF has burst onto the world stage. Science fiction is reshaping not 
 only China’s literature landscape\, but also its technological imaginati
 on and innovations. Now China is aiming to lead the world’s artificial i
 ntelligence industry by 2030. This panel features three experts in Chinese
  science fiction\, world science fiction literature\, and software enginee
 ring who will share their views about how China is becoming a science fict
 ion powerhouse\, how authors alarm the public of current social issues via
  science fictions\, and how China is seeking and pushing technological inn
 ovations.\n\nFree and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. \n\

 anley Chen(陈楸帆) (Chinese Science Fiction Author) : \n\nChen Qiufan (
 A.K.A. Stanley Chan) is a representative member of China’s new generatio
 n of speculative fiction authors. He is known for his stylistic combinatio
 n of realism and New Wave\, and has been called “China’s William Gibso
 n”. His works have been translated into many languages and received mult
 iple domestic and international awards including 9 Chinese Nebula Awards(C
 hina counterpart of Hugo Award)\, 3 Galaxy Awards and World F&SF Translati
 on Award. His representative works include “The Waste Tide”（English 
 Edition translated by Ken Liu\, will be published by Tor\, Head of Zeus\, 
 Penguin and Random House in US/UK/Germany/Spain in 2019)\, “Censored”\
 , and “Future Disease”\,“The Age of Posthuman”\, “The Algorithm 
 for Life”. \n\nHe graduated from Peking Univ.\, was major on Chinese Lit
 erature and Film Art. He previously worked for Google\, Baidu\, and VR/Moc
 ap leading Startup Noitom Technology for over ten years. He is also a memb
 er of WSFA(Science Fiction Writer Association) and the President of CSFA (
 Chinese Science Fiction Writer Association)\, and have a seat in Xprize Fo
 undation SFAC (Science Fiction Advisory Council) as the only Chinese parti
 cipant.\n\nJohn Shanahan (Associate Professor of English\, DePaul Universi
 ty)\n\nJohn Shanahan is Associate Dean and Associate Professor of English 
 at DePaul. His research interests include literature about science and tec
 hnology\, science fiction\, and digital humanities. He teaches courses on 
 science fiction\, book history\, and digital humanities. Recent publicatio
 ns include an article about David Mitchell’s quasi-SF novel _Cloud Atlas
 _\, and his work on the "Reading Chicago Reading" project has been support
 ed by the National Endowment for the Humanities. \n\nXiaoping Jia (Profess
 or of Computing\, DePaul University)\n\nXiaoping Jia is a Professor of Com
 puter Science and Software Engineering at the School of Computing\, Colleg
 e of CDM\, DePaul University. His research interests including software de
 velopment methods\, software engineering for mobile devices\, global colla
 borative software development\, innovations on software\, and history of c
 omputing. He and his colleague Ed Keenan led a DePaul Study Abroad Program
  on Global Software Engineering to Shanghai and Beijing in 2016. \n\nModer
