About this Event
2250 N. Sheffield Ave.
Join us for lunch and a stimulating talk from 2024 Mid-Career Excellence in Research Awards recipient Dr. Joanna Buscemi (Associate Professor of Psychology, Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Health Initiatives).
In her upcoming colloquium, "Addressing Health Inequities Across Disease Presentations," Dr. Buscemi will present three key studies led by her team at DePaul University, highlighting her research in health psychology. The first study, funded by the Sinai Urban Health Institute-DePaul Research Fellowship, examines diabetes mortality across the 30 largest cities in the United States. The second project, supported by the Steans Center Community-Based Research Faculty Fellowship and in partnership with Alliance Care 360 (formerly Brothers Health Collective), investigates COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy. The third study, a randomized controlled trial funded by the National Institutes of Health, focuses on developing and testing a multibehavioral intervention aimed at caregivers of children undergoing dental surgery under anesthesia, with the goal of promoting long-term oral health. Through these diverse projects, Dr. Buscemi's work demonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing health inequities across a wide range of disease presentations, advancing both clinical practice and public health outcomes.
