Codex Design Foundations is a series of friendly, guided, hands-on coding experiences intersecting basic design principles and fundamental computer programming concepts for beginners. Participants play and experiment with the relationships and behaviors of form, pattern, space, color, sequence, text, data, and interaction, using introductory level computer programming concepts: coordinates, variables, incrementation, conditionals, recursion, arrays, and encapsulation. This workshop also includes contextual and cultural overviews of different computer programming languages and their particular attributes and applications; the meaning of creative coding; examples of art and design projects using code to express, reveal, and disrupt; and resources for going further with the material introduced. This workshop uses the Processing programming language. Processing is a free and open-source language appropriate for beginners.
