The symposium will be Facilitated by DePaul's Office of Prior Learning Assessment as well as the Chicagoland CPL/PLA Consortium and De Paul's School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Symposium speakers will address how institutions can coordinate the recognition of Prior Learning. There also will be opportunities to learn about CPL/PLA processes and practices from
colleagues at other institutions.
Speakers include:
- Mary Beth Lakin is Director for the Credit for Prior Learning Assessment Network (C-PLAN) at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, which supports 37 campuses in CPL implementation. Previously she worked at the American Council on Education developing pathways and partnerships through the application of ACE credit recommendations at higher education institutions. She also has been faculty, academic advisor and program director at colleges and universities in California, Japan, and Virginia.
- Becky Klein-Collins is the Vice President, Research and Impact at Council of Adult and Experiential Council of Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL).ln this role, she leads CAEL's research initiatives, evaluation activities, and impact measurement strategy. Her work has been foundational in building CAEL:s reputation as a national resource in advancing Credit for Prior Learning/Prior Learning Assessment ICPL/PLAJ. Her other research and public policy activities have focused on competency-based education, student veterans, mature workers, and system-transforming practices in workforce development. Klein-Collins regularly speaks to national audiences on topics related to adult learners, and she is the author of numerous articles and policy position papers for CAEL.
