Program Note : This evening’s concert of contemporary music, presented by Dana Hall and three of his closest friends and long-time collaborators, celebrates not only their musical and personal camaraderie, but also provides a carefully curated program that keenly illustrates the depth, breadth, and beauty of Black American Music composed over the past seventy-five years. Featuring selections from their most recent recordings, as well as Hall’s own compositions and works by Thelonious Monk, Marion Brown, Anthony Braxton, and other progressive composers of the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries, the quartet’s performance will be presented without intermission. Professor Hall will introduce each of tonight’s selections from the stage, sharing his and the ensemble’s unique versions of and connections to these important works.
