DePaul Migration Collaborative Inaugural Immigration Summit: Strategies for a Migrant Planet

This day-long convening will bring together scholars, advocates, students and practitioners in the Midwest and beyond to share research and insights on significant developments in migration and human rights. The aim of the Summit is to build bridges between professors, community partners, faith leaders, and others who are actively engaging and serving Chicago’s immigrant community.

Featured speakers include:

  • Hiroshi Motomura, Susan Westerberg Prager Distinguished Professor of Law and Faculty Co-Director, Center for Immigration Law and Policy, UCLA School of Law

  • Erika Lee, Regents Professor of History and Asian American Studies, Director, Immigration History Research Center, Rudolph J. Vecoli Chair in Immigration History, University of Minnesota

  • Donald M. Kerwin Jr., Executive Director of the Center for Migration Studies

Expert panels will address innovations and strategies in immigrant defense, refugee resettlement, mental health, climate migration, and detention, among other topics.

The DePaul Migration Collaborative is a joint initiative between the College of Law, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and The Division of Mission and Ministry. The mission of the DMC is to advocate for better public policy, foster cutting-edge research and publications, train the next generation of advocates, and provide transformative learning experiences for our students. We seek to harness the power of interdisciplinary scholarly collaboration to pursue dynamic, community-engaged projects, advocacy, and research.

This year’s symposium will be presented online and in person.

Online participants will receive a link to view the presentation just ahead of the event. In-person registration is capped at 90 attendees. All attendees must comply with DePaul University's COVID-19 policy, which requires attendees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have proof of a negative COVID-19 test dated no earlier than 72 hours prior to the program. Documentation will be reviewed at check-in for the event for all guests except DePaul faculty, staff and students.

In addition, all attendees must wear a face mask at all times while inside any DePaul University classroom or conference room. Cloth masks alone do not meet the university’s mask requirement. DePaul highly recommends using N95 or KN95 masks. If you do not have a N95 or KN95 mask, you may double mask with a cloth mask layered over a surgical mask. A well-fitted surgical mask by itself is acceptable but not preferable. These rules are subject to change in accordance with public health guidance.

DePaul College of Law is an accredited MCLE provider. This event is eligible for up to 7 CLE credit hours.
