DePaul Wind Symphony

An audacious evening of German and German-American composers opens with the bold harmonic power of Richard Strauss’ Königsmarsch, a piece that premiered in 1907 for a palace concert in Berlin, followed by one of Ingolf Dahl’s most celebrated works, the Concerto for Saxophone, which was given its 1949 premiere by the University of Illinois Concert Band. The evening’s tone then shifts to the world of medieval German romance with Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral from Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin, before the symphony concludes with Symphony in B flat, Paul Hindemith’s dramatic 1951 commission from the United States Army Band.
