DHC Presents: Living Through the End: Nuclear War in 1980s TV and Movies

On Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, the DePaul Humanities Center will host “Living Through the End: Nuclear War in 1980s TV and Movies” via YouTube Livestream.
The Day After (1983 - US), Testament (1983 - US), and Threads (1984 - UK) deal with the horrors of nuclear war and its impact on its indiscriminate victims. The livestream will discuss these similar films, nuclear anxiety in the past and present, and the potential for films like these to spur collective action.
Speakers include:
- Min-Kyoo Kim - Film and Screen Studies, University of Cambridge
- Vicki Lesley - UK-based Documentary Filmmaker and Director of The Atom: A Love Affair (2019)
- Allison McCracken - History of American Popular Culture and Media, DePaul University
