Ideas Week: An Acoustic Tour of DePaul’s New Holtschneider Performance Center

Did you know that everything from the fabric on chairs to the material on walls impacts the sound in a concert hall? DePaul’s new state-of-the-art Holtschneider Performance Center contains four different concert halls, ranging from the grand, 505-seat Gannon Concert Hall to the intimate Corboy Jazz Hall, developed with a jazz-club setting in mind. Take a sneak peek before the Holtschneider Performance Center officially opens to the public in November at this Lab that’s part tour, part conversation, and part learning experience. With the help of student musicians, hear how sounds vary in each hall and learn how acoustic experts engineered them specifically for particular types of music by using wall thickness, draping, and other acoustical elements. Whether or not you have a background in music, you’ll come away with a new appreciation of the perfect sound in a performance hall.

Event venue has limited ADA accessibility.
