About this Event
2250 N Sheffield Ave
In this talk, the celebrated philosopher Gregory Fernando Pappas takes on the “big” question of injustice by focusing on what we can learn from the “small” everyday practices of activist grassroots community organizations in the Americas. For this talk, Dr. Pappas will focus on Casa Pueblo, an exemplary community education center that is committed to protecting natural, cultural, and human resources in Puerto Rico. Based on his first-hand experience at Casa Pueblo, Pappas will discuss the lessons that he learned there and how our academic approaches to injustice in the U.S. have much to learn from the kind of radical democracy that Casa Pueblo puts into practice. Food will be served!
Pappas is Professor of Philosophy at Texas A&M University and a recent National Humanities Center Fellow. He is the editor-in-chief of The Inter-American Journal of Philosophy and is a past president of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy (SAAP).
