Do you know what intersectionality is? Join the Cultural and Resource Centers team in a panel discussion from esteemed scholars in academia, journalism, and community organizing on how intersectionality plays a critical role in advancing justice across disciplines.
Twenty-nine years ago, Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term “intersectionality” in a paper as a way to help explain the oppression of African-American women. Crenshaw’s then somewhat academic term is not at the forefront of national conversations about racial justice, identity politics, and policing- and over the years has helped shape legal discussions.
Since the concept has been theorized, intersectionality has become a staple term that may complicate conversations, serve as inspiration, or touted as the apotheosis of everything gone wrong. But, what is intersectionality, exactly, and how does its popular understanding square with its scholarly beginning. Join us in a panel discussion from esteemed leaders, community organizers and activists on how intersectionality plays a critical role in advancing justice across disciplines.
