Lunchtime Speaker Series: Oya Speaks with Karen Rose
Thursday, January 25, 2024 11am to 12:30pm
About this Event
Free Event
Oya is considered the goddess of the wind, lightning and storms, and is associated with change, transformation and destruction. She is often depicted as a fierce and powerful warrior with a machete in one hand (used to cut through obstacles and bring about change) and a fan (to control the winds and bring about storms) in the other. How is Spiritual Herbalism and integrating Orishas like Oya useful for Black communities and people besieged by violence, state violence, and the new policies, banning books, etc.?
Karen M. Rose is dedicated to empowering individuals to make informed decisions not only about their health, but their total lifestyle. She is a Master Herbalist and has created an outlet for her teachings and healing modalities with the opening of Brooklyn-based Sacred Vibes Healing and Sacred Vibes Apothecary in 2002. This conversation will be about Karen’s upbringing in Guyana, the significance of Spiritual Herbalism in Black communities, and how communities across the African Diaspora can transform and heal through ancestral medicine.
