For many of us, the sex education we received as young people focuses on the various threats associated with engaging in sexual activity. After surviving sexual harm, this association between sex and threat is understandably emphasized. What is sometimes missing from our conversations around recovering from sexual violence is discussion about what healthy sexuality actually is and how survivors can incorporate that as part of their healing process. Through this workshop we will explore this concept of healthy sexuality and where that fits in with the process of healing after sexual violence. Participants will explore this through personal refection on their relationship with their own sexuality as well as through art making and discussion. . . . . This workshop will be presented by our community partners at Resilience, facilitated by Jordan Ferranto, LCPC, ATR a licensed psychotherapist, registered art therapist, and sex therapist in training currently working at Resilience as the Creative Arts Therapy Supervisor. She has been practicing as a therapist just shy of five years and has developed a focus on sexual trauma, relationships, and sexuality throughout her career. Her therapeutic style emphasizes relational-cultural and emotion focused techniques with an art-based bend. Jordan’s visual art practice is grounded in fiber arts and she is particularly passionate about the use of stitch-based processes as meditation as well as the implications of incorporating “soft arts” as an inroad to processing and healing our most tender wounds.
