Overcoming Spiritual Myopia: A Path from Division to Inclusion

Facilitators: Margaret Placentra Johnston, Doctor of Optometry and author of Overcoming Spiritual Myopia, and Patricia Bombard, BVM., D.Min., Director of Vincent on Leadership: The Hay Project

Learning Objectives: Describe the spiritual stages of development, assess your present stage, and apply knowledge of the stages in talking with others in a more healthy and peaceful way.

Learning Outcome: Overcoming our personal and cultural spiritual myopia to create greater compassion, acceptance, inclusiveness, forgiveness and love in our lives and in our world.

Margaret Placentra Johnston spent years correcting physical myopia (nearsightedness) in her patients. Then a shocking new awareness compelled her to research a cure for our collective “myopia” in understanding the spiritual journey. Patricia Bombard discovered Margaret’s work in her own research into links between spiritual development and leadership development, especially as evident in the life of Vincent de Paul. Together, inspired by Vincent de Paul, and through personal stories, learnings, and conversation, we will explore how overcoming spiritual myopia offers hope for moving from division to inclusion.
