DESCRIPTION:Kizito Kalima will be joining the Refugee and Forced Migrati
on Studies Program to talk about the road to reconciliation and healing af
ter conflict and extreme violence. Attend this event to hear his incredibl
e story and learn how his organization has transformed the lives of those
dealing with violence and trauma.\n\nThis event is open to the entire D
ePaul community and all are welcome! It will take place on DePaul's Lincol
n Park Campus in Arts and Letters Hall\, Room 103.\n\nCo-hosted by the Ref
ugee and Forced Migration Studies Program\, the Peace\, Justice and Confli
ct Studies Program\, the Women's Center\, and the Division of Mission and
Ministry.\n\n \n\nKizito Kalima is a survivor of the 1994 Genocide Against
the Tutsi in Rwanda and the founder of the Peace Center for Forgiveness a
nd Reconciliation\, a not-for-profit committed to educating on genocide aw
areness and prevention\, as well as creating healing spaces for both victi
ms and perpetrators of mass atrocity. After losing much of his family to g
enocide and barely escaping himself\, Kalima found refuge in sports\, whic
h eventually brought him to the United States. Kalima went on to pursue a
degree in criminal justice and later founded The Peace Center for Forgiven
ess and Reconciliation (PCFR). The organization received official 501(c)3
status in 2014\, the same year in which Kalima was invited to share his li
fe story at the United Nations 20th Commemoration of the genocide in Rwand
a.\n\nThe PCFR provides a wide array of services under the umbrellas of
genocide awareness and prevention\, and peace rebuilding projects for you
th and adults. Along with speaking events and maintaining a museum dedicat
ed to genocide history and awareness\, the organization is also working to
ward a permanent Genocide Memorial in Indianapolis. Through peace rebuildi
ng projects\, they support kids and young adults in school and through spo
rts\, music\, dance\, and poetry programs. The organization also supports
the healing of adults\, many of whom are first generation survivors of vio
 lence\, through a variety of therapeutic\, social\, financial\, and career
  services.
