This talk will examine design activism from the view point of the graphic witness utilizing direct experience in the creation of work for betterment of our communities. We will examine historical and contemporary practitioners of design activism while focusing in on DelMarcelle’s work for the What Heroin Sounds Like Project. We will discuss the first amendment and how this powerful tool can be utilized in the challenging of the social status quo, corrupt governments and apathetic citizens.
