Science IRL: 3D representations of your equations, theories, and molecules!

Based on participant interest, this course will cover:

1. How to convert common chemical file formats such as protein data bank (PDB) or JMOL files into handheld, 3D plastic models.

2. How to turn mathematical surfaces f(x,y) into standard tessellation language (STL) files for 3D printing using the University-wide MatLAB license

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop, and to have already completed 3D printing authorization workshop.

Additional supplies: no additional supplies needed from IRL2 except space, monitors, and 3D printer availability.

Participants will learn: Proper safety operations, how to load and slice 3D models, how to load prints onto the Dremel 3D45, and how to successfully print that object. The workshop provides all materials and a sample project. Instructions can be found on our website at irl.depaul.edu.

Arrive on time and do not leave early. Completion of this workshop will result in your authorized use of ONLY THE DREMEL 3D PRINTERS in the IRL, you must take our other 3D Printer authorizations to use the Lulzbot, Prusa, and Resin printers. There is a REQUIRED QUIZ at the end of the workshop, and you must take (and pass) this quiz in order to be authorized to use the Dremel 3D45. Late arrivals will be turned away, and leaving early means you are not allowed to use this machine! Walk-in's will be accepted for no-show spots.

This workshop is free and open to all currently enrolled DePaul University students/staff/faculty. We do not accept those who are not DePaul affiliated. Alumni must provide an alumni ID card. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to machine use.

Participants seeking disability-related accommodations are invited to contact idearealizationlabdpu@gmail.com before the workshop so we may have the proper assistance and accommodations prepared.
