The Center to Advance Education for Adults (CAEA) invites you to a conversation between award winning authors, educators, and activists Sr. Helen Prejean and Barbara Crain Major.

Sr. Helen Prejean is widely known for her ministry work with death row  inmates and her decades long struggle against the death penalty. Through her ministry and advocacy, including her best-selling Dead Man Walking, Sister Helen has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue and prog-ress on equity in the criminal justice system and on shaping the Catholic Church’s vigorous opposition to all executions. Sister Helen credits her work to end the death penalty with teaching her much about the impact of institutional racism on society.

Barbara Crain Major is a community organizer, educator, author, activist, and core anti-racism trainer. Her new book (with coauthor Joseph Barndt), Deconstructing Racism: A Path Forward Toward Lasting Change, shines a light on ways religious institutions have perpetuated racism and advocates for change.

The conversation between Ms. Major and Sister Helen—and with the audience—will inspire all present. Join them in finding ways to effect positive social change. Complimentary copies of Deconstructing Racism will be available for the first 50 registrants, and both Sister Helen and Ms. Major will remain after the talk to sign their books.
