Support Cross-Cultural Transitions: A BUILD Workshop

At DePaul we make an intentional effort across the university to create a welcoming and supportive environment for new students. How do cross-cultural transitions impact what someone needs in a warm DePaul welcome? In this workshop, we will step into the shoes of new international students to help us explore how to support successful cross-cultural transitions. We will identify the common stresses and challenges of moving cross-culturally. We will discuss strategies and resources available to us here at DePaul as we support our students in these transitions. This workshop will help you support others as they go through cross-cultural transitions and will be relevant to anyone who works with international students and scholars or future or returned study abroad students. Participants in this course will be able to:

  • Understand how complex the transition across cultures can be
  • Identify resources available on campus to support and advocate for international students, visiting scholars and study abroad students with these transitions
  • Identify ways you can provide support personally and through your department to students and colleagues undergoing these types of transition
