Join us Friday evening, April 21, for a presentation by Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday/Belfast Agreement of 1998. The Agreement brought peace to Northern Ireland and ended the period of political violence known as The Troubles.

The Agreement changed life across the island of Ireland by resetting relationships between the communities of Northern Ireland, between Ireland and Northern Ireland, and between Ireland and the UK. The people of Northern Ireland have reaped many benefits in this quarter-century of peace, but deep divisions remain.

Ambassador Byrne Nason, who accompanied President Biden to Ireland last week, will reflect at DePaul on the vision and values of the 1998 Agreement, and the ongoing need to implement its promises.

This is a free but ticketed event, and advance registration is required for e-tickets via the link below.

Presented by the Consulate General of Ireland, Chicago, with the DePaul Irish Studies Program. Co-sponsored by DePaul University’s School of Music; the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy; and the departments of History, Political Science, English, Religious Studies, and Geography.

While masks are not required inside the Holtschneider Performance Center concert halls, DePaul University continues to be a mask-friendly campus and wearing a mask will be highly recommended for all indoor spaces. Proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test will no longer be required upon entry.
