Dr. Antonio Byrd will discuss classroom activities that reveal how LLMs--linguistic pleasure tools--are trained to hide histories of oppression and dehumanization. By investigating the texts LLM designers try to filter out of their generative AI tools, instructors and students can embrace the varieties of English they use to write, downgrading LLMs from pleasure tools to productivity assistants.
