WRD is pleased to announce our Winter Quarter 2025 speaker event with Dr. Jo Hsu, who will present their talk titled "This Story Begins with a Sundering: On Narratives and Medical Uncertainty".
This Story Begins with a Sundering: On Narratives and Medical Uncertainty
This talk bridges disability studies and the rhetorics of health and medicine to explore how narratives shape health injustice. I consider story as both object and method of rhetorical criticism, asking how dominant mythologies permeate scientific knowledge and how narrative innovations reimagine meaningful care. More broadly, I consider the role of story in negotiations of expertise and uncertainty, insisting on the need to engage deeply with the complexities of story-based knowledge to better serve our most vulnerable communities.
