 etention in the Era of Enmity." \n\nDescription:\nThis talk explores how i
 m/migrant detention functions not only as a procedural step to deportation
  and a deterrence mechanism\, but also\, through the purposeful use of cru
 elty\, as an enduring echo of state power that reminds the previously deta
 ined and their communities of the supposed immutability of US sovereignty.
